Alex is now one of the UK’s leading educationalists for Music, and is regularly invited into schools around the UK as an adjudicator or visiting leader of A-level conferences, performance masterclasses, INSET days, CPD and departmental reviews. He also leads numerous teacher training courses with Keynote Educational that focus on outstanding teaching, both for new and experienced teachers, and enabling Heads of Music and teachers to implement an inspiring, rich and holistic music curriculum in their schools.

An A-level Music examiner, Alex is the author and creator of Mastering A-level Music – a new subscription website for teachers and students across all aspects of Edexcel’s A-level course, which launched in May 2023 and is now used worldwide. He also contributed to the GCSE Music specification, having written the analysis for the set work Defying Gravity, and was on the textbook review team.

Having now taught for 19 years, both privately and in a variety of schools, Alex continues to be in demand for private tuition of GCSE and A-level Music, piano and musicianship, as well as for coaching musical theatre actors for auditions and showcases. He maintains close relationships with a number of the UK’s leading schools, both in the state and private sectors.

Alex’s unique, innovative and holistic teaching approach has consistently yielded outstanding A-level and GCSE results across all components of the specifications. He now has former students at Cambridge, Oxford, Durham, Bristol, Birmingham and York universities, as well as the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, Royal Northern College of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Birmingham Conservatoire, and the Academy of Contemporary Music. He has also coached students through diplomas for the Royal Schools of Music, the Royal College of Organists, Trinity College of Music and the London College of Music.

Alex currently teaches piano, musicianship, and GCSE or A-level Music to students from throughout Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire. Passionate about inspiring children and young adults in particular, Alex helped to establish the Oxford and Cambridge Singing School for 7-13 year olds in 2013; he also regularly works with The National Children’s Choir (whose musicianship programme he created), National Youth Music Theatre, and Phoenix Chorale.

During his three years as organ scholar at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge (where he read Music before completing a PGCE), Alex worked closely with and regularly conducted the college’s world-renowned Girls’ Choir, helping them to prepare for several high-profile performances.

Alex most recently spent three years as the Children’s Musical Director and Cover Conductor for Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Mary Poppins in London, where he was responsible for (musically) looking after the five pairs of children who played Jane and Michael, as well as being one of the conductors of the show.
